GOSHEN, Ind. - Goshen was within six with under two minutes to play, but Spring Arbor came in and took an 81-71 win in Goshen on Saturday afternoon.
Marcus Northern had a 22-point, 12-rebound double-double for the Leafs.
Spring Arbor made 54% of their first-half shots as they took a 46-34 lead at the halftime break. Their lead was up to 18 with 7:15 to go when Goshen rallied up a 17-5 run that put them within six points.
Kamren Williams made a bucket with 1:40 left on the clock to make it a 75-69 game, forcing the Cougars to use a timeout.
When they returned, both teams committed a turnover, followed by a Spring Arbor basket to go up 77-69. Their remaining points came from free-throws, as they prevailed 81-71 in the end.
Marcus Northern had 22 points, a career-high 12 rebounds and a pair of assists and steals in the defeat. This was his second career double-double, his fifth 20-point game this season, and his tenth multi-steal game of the season.
Kevin Cota had 13 points, tying a career-high in a conference game. He had seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. He made six of his nine shooting attempts.
Kameron Williams also filed the stat sheet with 12 points, a season-high six rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block. Off the bench,
Jacob Carlson added 11 points, three rebounds and two steals with no turnovers in 18 minutes of action. It was his third game this season with three or more three-pointers.
Juraj Minarovjech had four blocks - his first four of the season. He had four across his first 710 minutes of action as a Maple Leaf, and just as many in his 24 minutes today.
As a team, the Leafs had a season-high six blocks and their second-fewest turnover total of the season with ten.
