PARKVILLE, Mo. - First-year head coach
Wyatt Bollinger earned his first career victory as the Maple Leafs played twice on day two of the Pirate Invitational hosted by Park University. Goshen rallied to beat Jamestown in five sets (17-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-16, 15-10) before falling to #8 Park in three (20-25, 22-25, 17-25).
Goshen vs Jamestown
Goshen never had the lead in the first set but used a 6-0 run midway through the second set to take a significant 21-14 edge. The Jimmies scored eight of the last 12 points, but Goshen did enough to take the set 25-22 to tie it up. Goshen went up 8-3 early in the third but Jamestown slowly came back. With the team tied 19-19, the Jimmies came through to win 25-23.
Yet in the last two sets, the Leafs outscored their opponent 40-26. Jamestown never led in the fourth set, and their early two-point lead in the fifth was quickly erased after a 4-0 Goshen run. Goshen went up 10-5 and held that lead to win 15-10.
This was the first-ever matchup between the two schools.
Bruno Barac had 15 kills, eight digs, four aces, two block assists and a solo block for Goshen.
Sawyer Frystak totaled 11 kills.
Mathis Doladille had seven kills, no attack errors and a .500 hitting percentage.
Avery Laforce had 37 assists and seven digs.

Goshen vs Park
Goshen wasn't originally supposed to play the host school, the #8 team in the NAIA, but schedule changes due to winter weather and teams altering their plans for the tournament created a change in Goshen's opponents. Park started off with a 5-1 lead in the first set and ran with it until the end. The Leafs hung around in the second set, and when they were down five, they went on a 4-0 run to pull within one at 20-21. Park used a timeout, and they finished the set on a 4-2 run. Goshen's only lead in the third set was after the first point. While they were still only down four late into the set, the Pirates scored the last four straight to win the set, and the match.
When the teams faced a year ago, Goshen never scored more than 13 points in a set, however they did so easily in all three sets this time around. Blocking continues to be a strong spot, as Goshen led in that category 9-2.
Ben Koop had three solo blocks - a career-high. He had four solo blocks all of last season and already has four over the first four matches of 2026. He also recorded five kills and seven digs.
Ishmail Bangura had ten kills while
Avery Laforce had 12 assists and seven digs. Matihs Doladille had a .500 hitting percentage and five kills. He has 19 kills and just three attack errors ove his first four matches as a Maple Leaf so far.
Goshen (1-3) hosts Judson on Tuesday, January 27, at 7:00 pm for their home opener.
