Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Kate Bodiker

Maple Leafs improve on early season performance in 3-0 loss to MVNU

Corey passed 200 kills on the season in this matchup

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. - Women's volleyball made the long trek to Ohio as they faced the Cougars of Mount Vernon Nazarene. Though they improved their performance over their last outing against the Cougars, the Maple Leafs fell 25-18, 25-21, 25-21.

The Leafs actually led the first set until the 11 point mark, but when MVNU went on a six and then four point run, they couldn't quite recover in time. Three kills from Emily Aabye would spell the end of the first set for GC.

Set two also started with a point for the Leafs, but the Cougars took control a little earlier, leading until the Leafs put up a 4-0 run to tie things up at 18 all. From there a series of Cougars kills would help them pull ahead of the Leafs to the end.

Set three was very evenly back and forth from the beginning, and it was something as small as a 3-0 run for MVNU to take the lead 18-14 that just proved to be an insurmountable gap for the Leafs. Though Goshen pulled out a 3-0 run of their own, they just couldn't quite close it out as a service ace from the Cougars put the set to bed.

Railynn Bowman was decidedly the kill leader for the match with 10 and a hitting percentage of .300. Behind her was Carmin Corey, who, by picking up seven kills in this match, passed the 200 kill mark for this season, now sitting at 203. Jessie Price picked up yet another muli-ace game, this time the second highest of her career with four.

The Maple Leafs are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 17, when they return home to take on the Bethel Pilots in yet another iteration of U.S. Highway 20 Cup action. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
