GOSHEN, Ind. - Men's soccer hosted the Grace College Lancers, eventually falling 5-0 after a very physical match.
Though possession at the beginning of the match was fairly balanced, the Lancers gained an advantage early when Goshen received a yellow card in just the 11th minute of action.
The Lancers then took an early lead after they were awarded a penalty kick in the 22nd minute of play, following that up with another goal just 5 minutes later. Goshen then received another yellow card in the 34th minute, and a red card in the 35th, putting them down a man for the rest of the match.
2-0 would remain the scoreline heading into the half way break, but the Lancers came out quickly in the second half with a goal in the 47th minute to bring their lead to three. To round out the game they also managed to find goals in the 62nd and 87th minutes.
GC outfouled the Lancers 12-8 and received four cautions to the Lancers zero. Diogo Coelho led the Leafs with a shot on goal, and Martim Alves picked up a shot as well. Matias Labbe also picked up five saves for the Leafs.
The Maple Leafs are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 24 as they face the Saint Francis Cougars at 6 p.m. for their Senior Night matchup.
