MISHAWAKA, Ind. - Men's soccer fell on the road in U.S Highway 20 Cup action, as Bethel came out on top 5-0.
Things started off pretty evenly between the Pilots and the Maple Leafs, as both spent the first 20 minutes testing the other side and looking for breaking points. The Pilots managed to find one in the 28th minute with a goal from Diego Cadabon, finding the side netting off a cross from teammate Noe Ferreira.
Cadabon then struck again in the 41st minute with an impressive shot from outside the 18 that slipped just over the hands of Theo Lucchesi, who was making his first team debut in this match for the Leafs.
The Pilots came out strong after the halftime break, scoring in the 47th minute — the goal itself was nearly identical to the first for the Pilots, though this time it was Matheus Gabriel who scored off the cross from Ferreira. Ferreira himself then got in on the action as he scored in the 60th minute.
The Pilots wrapped up the match by scoring in the 90th minute, with only 45 seconds left as they got loose on a breakaway, and Lucas Pigatto was able to put the game to bed.
Kyle Phillip and Isaac Enciso picked up shots for the Leafs, generating a few chances, especially earlier on, that could have easily gone Goshen's way.
The Maple Leafs are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 10 as they travel to take on the #6 Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m.
