Allen's game-winner in closing seconds ends conference drought

Goshen held Marian to 4-22 from downtown

GOSHEN, Ind. - Goshen snapped a 54-game conference losing streak and a 19-game losing streak to Marian on Saturday afternoon in Gunden Gymnasium. Braden Allen's go-ahead basket with 3.6 seconds left made the difference in Goshen's 75-74 win.

Kenny May hit a three to start the game for the Leafs, but the Knights had an 11-0 run to go up eight just five minutes into the game. The Maple Leafs immediately responded with a 7-0 run and another 7-0 run later in the half to put Goshen up 22-20. Tied 28-28, Goshen scored eight points in a row, all free-throws, and some in response to technical fouls on Marian head coach Pat Knight that resulted in his ejection from the game. At the half, GC held a 36-30 lead.

Goshen had a double-digit lead at 58-48. It lasted only briefly, as Marian cut the lead to two. The Leafs had an 8-0 run, followed by a Marian 10-0 run, to tie the game at 66 apiece. They hadn't scored since there was 4:12 to go on the clock, but Braden Allen hit the game-winning shot for Goshen with 3.6 seconds to go. Marian inbounded the ball successfully in the closing seconds, but an attempt from Dylan Moles was blocked by Marcus Northern and the Maple Leafs left with a thrilling 75-74 win.
