Olgiati and Hubick shine as Goshen rallies to win in five sets on the road

The Leafs have already surpassed their win total from a season ago

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. - With 17 matches left in the season, the Goshen men's volleyball team has already surpassed their win total from a year ago. The Maple Leafs came back from being down two sets to one to win at Trinity Christian in five sets - 23-25, 25-20, 25-27, 25-17, 15-11.

Goshen is now 5-8 this season. This was Goshen's fifth five-set match this year, already matching their number of five-set competitions from a year ago. Goshen is 2-3 in those matches this year and was 1-4 in those instances in 2025.

The Leafs led in kills, hitting percentage and assists in the first set. The Trolls capitalized with five solo blocks, however, to win the set narrowly at 25-23. Goshen had a much improved .357 hitting percentage in the second set and Trinity Christian didn't have any blocks in that time. Alessandro Olgiati started to make his presence known, with eight kills and a .500 hitting percentage by the end of the set. Goshen's offense took a nosedive in the third with a -.029 attack percentage in the set. GC led 25-24 but lost the final three points in the set.

While the offense got drastically worse in the third set, it improved at an even greater rate in the fourth. Goshen dominated the set 25-17 with a .560 hitting percentage, 16 kills and two attack errors. The commanding win came while Trinity Christian had their best offensive set as well with a .333 hitting percentage. Goshen led in block assists by this point 20-5. The Maple Leafs were now playing their fifth five-set match of the season, already as many as they had a year ago. The Leafs were 1-7 going back to last season in their most recent eight matches that went to five sets, but this time they came away with a win, 15-11. The Trolls scored a few points when Goshen was at match point but the Leafs prevailed in the end.

Alessandro Olgiati had 19 kills and a .441 hitting percentage. He added six digs and three block assists. Nash Hubick had 50 assists, averaging ten per set, and also a team-high nine digs. Ryan Kabrich had nine kills, a .571 hitting percentage and six block assists. Trinity Christian led in solo blocks 7-0 but Goshen led in block assists 20-5.
