CAMPTON, Ky. - The Goshen baseball team played the first two of four games at Wolfe County High School in Campton, Kentucky on Friday. Kentucky Christian won the first game 10-2. The Leafs faced Campbellsville in the next game and the Tigers won 4-1.
Game One
Troy Griffin walked and
Aidan Calvey singled to put Griffin on third base in the first inning.
Dylan Pearson hit a sac fly to left that got Griffin home and put the Leafs on the board first. The lead was short-lived, however, as the Knights scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the first. Three of the hits were for extra bases. They added two more in the second off of Goshen starter
Lance Wilson.
Robby Dillard pitched the next two innings, allowing two earned runs and just one hit.
Nick Padron and
Troy Griffin hit singles in the third and
Aidan Calvey walked to load the bases. However, a groundout ended the inning and the Leafs were unable to cut in on the KCU lead.
The Knights scored two in the fourth to increase their lead to 9-1. In the sixth, Calvey walked and advanced to second on a balk, and then advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a RBI groundout from
AJ Carrasquillo. KCU had an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth and the Leafs went down 1-2-3 in the third. Kentucky Christian won 10-2.
Griffin, Calvey and Padron all had singles for Goshen while Pearson and Carrasquillo had an RBI each.
Robby Dillard and
Jarrett Willoughby combined to allow just two hits in the last four innings on the mound.
Game Two
Like game one, Goshen scored first by scoring in the first.
Jackson Whittington and
Troy Griffin both walked to start the inning and moved to second and third after a groundout.
AJ Carrasquillo then hit a two-out RBI single to score Whittington and make the game 1-0.
Logan Wilson held Campbellsville scoreless for the first three innings and didn't allow a hit until the third, but the Tigers pounced in the fourth with three runs and added one in the fifth once
AJ Lenn came in relief.
Wilson allowed three earned runs on three hits in 3.2 innings. He had four strikeouts and seven walks.
AJ Lenn allowed just one earned run in 3.1 innings with two hits allowed. Goshen left a runner on base in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings after quick third and fourth innings. All four Goshen hits were singles, coming from
