Pico's shutout complete game win highlights Goshen's day three in Florida

Goshen had no errors in the 6-0 win over Fort Lauderdale

MELBOURNE, Fla. - Maple Leafs softball was on both ends of shutouts on Wednesday at the Space Coast Spring Games. The Leafs lost to Oakland City 5-0 before Esme Pico's complete game lifted Goshen past Fort Lauderdale 6-0.

Game One
The Might Oaks rattled off 13 hits against Goshen - the most the Leafs have allowed against a nonconference opponent since February 28, 2023 against Southeastern. Oakland City got on the board in the second inning from an RBI groundout and added another run in the third from an RBI double. A two-RBI single in the fifth made it 4-0. Tatem Adams went 4.2 innings for Goshen, allowing four earned runs on ten hits. Molly Klein went the remaining 2.1 innings, allowing one earned run on three hits with a couple of strikeouts and a walk.

The Maple Leafs had five hits and left two or more runners on base in all but the final inning. Morgan Burgess had the complete game win for Oakland City. Rachel Kates had a pair of singles for Goshen. Audrey White, Hayden McGuire and Tatem Adams each had a single as well.

Game Two
While it was Camryn Barrows who pitched stellar complete games for Goshen's first two wins of the year, this time around Esme Pico got in on the action.

Against Fort Lauderdale, Pico went all seven innings, giving up no earned runs and no walks. She allowed four hits and had two strikeouts. Her defense behind her had no errors - collecting 11 flyouts and seven groundouts. Pico has a 1.14 ERA through 12.1 innings so far this season.

Offensively, it wasn't until the fourth that the Leafs gave Pico some run support. An RBI single from Bianca Diamond scored Serenidy Mitchem, who was pinch running for Kaylee Kline after she hit a double to left. Goshen left the bases loaded in the second and the fourth but got a second run in the fifth as an RBI groundout from Brinleight Arredondo scored Camryn Barrows.

In the seventh, the Leafs offense pulled through yet again with four runs. With Audrey White at second and Camryn Barrows at first, Molly Klein lade down a bunt single, but everyone advance an extra base on a throwing error from the second baseman, scoring White. Arredondo had her second and third RBIs of the day as the next batter. She drove a double to center field to score Barrows and Klein, and made it 5-0. Lastly, Ella Mcleod came up next and laid down a bunt singled to third. Arredondo scored on an error from the third baseman to make it 6-0. Goshen had four runs and two hits in the inning while the Eagles had two errors. Pico finished Fort Lauderdale quickly in the bottom of the seventh with two popups and a groundout.

Pico is now 1-0 this season. Arredondo finished with a double and a single, three RBIs and a run. Barrows had two singles and scored two of Goshen's runs. Hayden McGuire had a pair of singles, too. Bianca Diamond had a single, an RBI, a stolen base and was hit by a pitch twice.

On Thursday, Goshen (3-3) will face Columbia International at 12:15 pm and 2:30 pm.
