Maple Leafs sweep Rochester Christian at home

Gavin Furgerson led the way with nine kills

GOSHEN, Ind. - Goshen College men's volleyball recorded their second victory of their Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference campaign for 2026, as they swept the Rochester Christian Warriors on Friday night. They won 25-10, 25-15, 25-19.

The match started quite even, with the game being tied at two, before the Maple Leafs went on an 7-2 run to force the Warriors into their first timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Goshen went on a 7-1 run to bring the set to 16-5, forcing the Warriors into another timeout. The teams exchanged points until the score sat at 21-10, before the Maple Leafs scored four unanswered points to win the set 25-10.

Goshen's form at the end of the set carried into the next, establishing a 6-0 lead early. Three of these points came from aces from setter Nash Hubick. The teams exchanged points in the middle of the set, until Goshen put together a small run, to bring the score to 17-7. The Maple Leafs couldn't stamp their authority at the end of the set, as they again traded points with the Warriors before taking the set 25-15.

The teams were tied at 4-4, before Goshen went on another 7-1 run, including 5 attacking errors from Rochester, to take an 11-5 lead. With the match all but secured, first-year head coach Wyatt Bollinger put in Adrian Candia and Matthew Dyck. This marked both players first inclusions in a WHAC game in their careers. The Warriors fought back towards the end of the set, putting together a 5-1 run to bring the score to 24-19, before a kill from Sawyer Frystak at match point secured the win for the Maple Leafs.

The Goshen freshmen continued to show their strength as Gavin Furgerson led the team in kills with nine and Nash Hubick led the team in assists with 23. Hubick also led the team in aces with three. The Maple Leafs also recorded their best hitting percentage in a match in 2026. They ended at .352 from 71 total attempts. They held their opponent to a .038 hitting percentage on 79 attempts.

The Maple Leafs will play #9 Lawrence Tech today, Saturday, February 28th at the Ruth Gunden Gymnasium.
