GOSHEN, Ind. - In their first Crossroads League games of the season, the Goshen softball team lost twice to Saint Francis on Tuesday afternoon. The Cougars won 12-2 in game one and 7-0 in game two.
Game One
Goshen scored first in game one, but USF followed up with 12 unanswered runs.
Audrey White hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first, her second in the last two games. In the second inning,
Celeste Gutierrez singled to score
Camryn Barrows - who had doubled and reached third on a passed ball earlier on.
After two strikeouts to start the third, the Cougars scored four runs with two outs. That was the end for Goshen starter
Camryn Barrows, who allowed four earned runs in three innings pitched with five strikeouts and three walks. With
Molly Klein now in the circle, Saint Francis scored twice more in the fourth - one of those runs coming with two outs as well. They scored a two-out run in the fifth and all five of their seventh inning runs were with two outs. Lillian Pierce hit a grand slam that drove up the score from 8-2 to 12-2. Goshen went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh.
The Leafs had five errors and three of the USF runs were unearned.
Camryn Barrows and
Brinleigh Arredondo each had doubles for the Leafs.
Audrey White,
Tatem Adams and
Celeste Gutierrez each hit singles.
Game Two
In the second contest, Saint Francis starter Olivia Fuentes had seven strikeouts and no walks in 4.1 innings. She allowed no runs and just four hits. Her team helped her offensively in the first three innings, scoring on a throwing error in the first, an RBI single and a two-RBI double in the second and then an RBI single in the third to make it 5-0. A two-RBI double in the fifth extended the lead to 7-0.
Audrey White had a double for the Leafs and now has at least one extra-base hit in six consecutive games. She is hitting .465 on the season.
Sydney Lockhart,
Hayden McGuire and
Danica Bergeron each hit singles for Goshen. The Leafs had four errors and the Cougars had none.
