WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Goshen had 17 hits in game one and a strong 3.2 innings of pitching from
Tatem Adams in game two in a pair of road victories at Grace on Thursday. The Maple Leafs won 12-2 and 4-3. Goshen has now won six straight against Grace and has a record of 17-6-1 in their last 24 matchups.
Game One
Goshen had six hits in the first inning alone whereas Grace had five hits the entire game.
Camryn Barrows,
Audrey White,
Tatem Adams,
Rachel Kates,
Brinleigh Arredondo and
Kaylee Kline all hit singles - all with one out in the inning. The Leafs had a 4-0 lead heading into the second when they added two more on a two-run homer with an 0-2 count by
Camryn Barrows. The Lancers scored a pair in the bottom of the second, but Barrows, who was the starting pitcher, reclaimed those runs with her second two-run home run of the game, coming in the fourth inning to give GC a 6-2 lead.
Ella Mcleod scored in the fifth on a wild throw, Arredondo hit an RBI single in the sixth and it was followed later in the inning on a two-RBI double to deep right from
Hayden McGuire. After six innings, Goshen hit the run rule and won 12-2.
Offensively, Barrows finished the day 3-4 with two home runs, three runs, four RBIs and a stolen base. Defensively, she threw six innings while allowing two earned runs on five hits. She had four strikeouts and allowed no walks. There were no walks for either team in the game.
Tatem Adams also tallied three hits - two doubles and a single. She had a run and an RBI.
Rachel Kates,
Brinleigh Arredondo and
Ella Mcleod all had multi-hit games.
Hayden McGuire had three RBIs.
Game Two
The Maple Leafs rallied late in game two for a comeback win after being three runs down. The Lancers scored a run in the first, one in the second and another in the fourth.
Esme Pico went three innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits.
Tatem Adams came in and allowed no earned runs on just two hits in the remaining 3.2 innings. She struck out four and walked none. Yet after five, Grace still had a 3-0 lead.
That changed in the sixth when Goshen was able to tie it.
Camryn Barrows reached base on a misplayed grounder and
Serenidy Mitchem was able to score. Later on,
Hayden McGuire hit a double to score
Rachel Kates and
Celeste Gutierrez with the bases loaded.
Tatem Adams hit a sac fly in the top of the seventh and got through the bottom of the inning, earning the win for the Leafs.
Adams had a pair of singles and an RBI. McGuire hit two doubles and had two RBIs.
Bianca Diamond had a triple and
Rachel Kates added a single.
Goshen (8-8, 2-2 CL) is at #6 Marian on Saturday, March 14, at 1:00 pm. The Leafs were 1-3 against the Knights last year.
