MISHAWAKA, Ind. - Goshen dropped a 3-0 road match to Bethel on Tuesday night, falling 25-23, 25-16, 25-17 at Goodman Gymnasium. The Maple Leafs stayed within reach in the opening set, but Bethel used its offense and late runs to close out the match in straight sets.
The first set was the closest of the night. Bethel moved in front early with a service ace, but Goshen answered in the middle of the set when Mathis Doladille delivered back-to-back aces to trim the deficit to 12-9. The Maple Leafs continued to press late and reached 23 points, yet Thomas Dunkley produced a key late kill for Bethel, and a Goshen attack error ended the set at 25-23.
Goshen showed another early push in the second set. Ben Koop served an ace that gave the Maple Leafs a 5-2 lead, but Bethel gradually took control as the set wore on. Dunkley fueled the decisive stretch with a string of kills, helping the Pilots separate for a 25-16 win and a two-set lead.
In the third set, Goshen stayed competitive through the middle stages behind Ishmail Bangura, who supplied several kills and helped keep the score within reach at 19-14. Bethel again found the finishing plays from Dunkley, who delivered multiple late kills before ending the match with a service ace for the 25-17 final.
Bangura led Goshen with 11 kills on 22 attack attempts, while Nash Hubick finished with 20 assists and eight digs. As a team, the Maple Leafs totaled 25 kills, three aces and six team blocks, but also committed 24 attack errors and 13 service errors. Bethel finished with 37 kills, four aces and eight team blocks.
