GOSHEN, Ind. - In the second game of a doubleheader that was unable to be played on Thursday due to rain, the #1 Taylor Trojans defeated Goshen 12-2. The Maple Leafs only had one less hit, but four more errors.
All four of Taylor's second and third inning runs were unearned. Goshen starter
Dylan Pearson had a quick 1-2-3 inning in the first - back-to-back days the Leafs were able to have a quick first inning. The second inning was nearly the same, but a Goshen error with two outs prevented that. The Trojans had a walk with the bases loaded later in the inning and then a two-RBI single from Fletcher Roemmich made it 3-0. Goshen had two infield errors in the third and the score grew to 4-0.
Dylan Pearson went 4.1 innings, allowing seven runs but only two that were earned. He struck out four, walked three and allowed five hits. Taylor scored three runs in the fifth and added another five in the sixth.
The Leafs had half of their eight hits in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Aidan Calvey singled followed by a single from
AJ Carrasquillo a couple of batters later.
Troy Griffin reached on a fielder's choice and there were then runners at the corners with two outs.
Steven Lopez hit the RBI single that scored

Troy Griffin scored when
Barron Welsh hit a double down the right field line. Neither team scored in the seventh, and 12-2 was the final score.
Lance Wilson allowed no earned runs in 1.2 innings fo relief. He allowed one hit in that span and struck out two batters. Calvey had a pair of singles for Goshen along with a stolen base and a run. Welsh and
Nathaniel Muriel hit doubles. Carrasquillo, Griffin, Lopez and
Chase Smith had singles. Taylor is now 35-3 this season.
The teams play at 1:00 pm on Saturday to conclude the series.
