HUNTINGTON, Ind. - Goshen had a top-25 win on Friday, defeating #25 Huntington 8-4 in game one. The Forester needed to make a comeback to win game two, 4-3.
Game One
This was the first time the Leafs had scored more than seven in a win against the Foresters since April 27, 2018. It was a game of runs, with Goshen going up 4-4, Huntington tying, and the Leafs scoring the last four to win 8-4.
Nathaniel Muriel hit an RBI single to start the Goshen scoring in the second inning. In the third,
AJ Carrasquillo had an RBI single,
Nick Padron contributed an RBI double and
Nathan Pinedo added a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0. Goshen was scoreless from the fourth through the seventh while the Foresters had three RBI singles and scored an unearned run after a throwing error.
In the top of the eighth,
Chase Smith scored an error and the Leafs retook their lead. They added some insurance runs in the ninth, as
Fernando Marte Santana homered,
Hunter Oborn hit an RBI single up the middle and
Chase Smith had an RBI flyout to center. That made it 8-4, and
Adam Traylor only allowed one baserunner in the bottom of the ninth as the Leafs prevailed for a top-25 win.
AJ Lenn went 4.1 innings for Goshen and allowed two earned runs on six hits.
Kenny Ayala pitched the next 1.2 innings, allowing one earned on three hits. Traylor pitched the last three, giving up no earned runs, one unearned run, and struck out four and walked two.
Marte Santana had four hits in five at-bats with two runs and the home run. Padron was 3-5 with a double, an RBI and a run. Oborn was 2-4 and Pinedo scored twice.
Game Two
The Leafs almost snagged a second win from Huntington. Goshen led 3-0 halfway through, but the Foresters tied it, and scored late to take a lead they maintained to the end.
Goshen started the first with a single from
Chase Smith followed by another from
Chris Godden - both up the middle. With runners at first and second,
Aidan Calvey sent a three-run bomb over the fence to give the Maple Leafs a 3-0 lead. The Foresters had a two-run shot in the fourth  and tied the game later in the inning on an RBI single. The home team scored on a passed ball with a runner on third in the bottom of the sixth and got the next three outs in the top of the seventh to win 4-3.
Goshen had eight hits while Huntington finished with only five. Calvey, Godden and Padron finished with multi-hit games. The Foresters were 5-5 on stolen base attempts while the Leafs were 0-1.
Dylan Pearson went 5.1 innings with three earned runs on five hits.
Corey Brown didn't allow any hits in the last 0.2 innings and struck out one.
Goshen finishes the series with two more against the Foresters. The games have been rescheduled from Saturday to Monday, April 6, at 1:00 pm.
