HUNTINGTON, Ind. - After defeating #25 Huntington on Friday 8-4 and losing a close second game 3-4, the Maple Leafs fell twice to the Foresters in the last two games of the series on Monday. Huntington won 12-3 and 4-0.
Game One
Huntington had a seven-run breakout second inning in game one on their way to a 12-3 win.
Goshen starter
Brandon Wright Barron got the first three batters out in the first inning on a groundout followed by two swinging strikeouts. The next inning wasn't as easy, however. The Foresters had three hits in the inning, with a grand slam from Keifer Wilson and a two-run home run by Owen Willard.Â
The Leafs scored in the top of the fourth on an RBI single from
Nick Padron that scored
Aidan Calvey. After Huntington bumped the score up to 8-1, the Leafs scored again in the fifth as
Chase Smith sent a two-run homer down the right field line. The home team added four more runs in the sixth to make it 12-3, and they held GC scoreless across their final four innings.
Brandon Wright Barron had the loss.
Baylor Orcutt threw the final two innings and didn't allow any runs and just one hit.
Chris Godden hit two singles and Smith had the home run.
Aidan Calvey,
AJ Carrasquillo and
Nick Padron also hit singles.
Game Two
While
Logan Wilson and
Zak Henrich had a decent performance on the mound in game two, they didn't receive any run support, as the Goshen offense managed just one hit in game two.
Chase Smith ended Huntington's team no-hit bid in the top of the sixth with a single. The Foresters had a two-RBI double off the bat of Keifer Wilson in the third and an RBI doubkle from Aiden Riser in the fourth. A sacrifice fly from Owen Willard later in the inning made it 4-0, which would be the final score.
Goshen was 0-6 with runners on base and 0-3 with runners in scoring position. The Foresters needed just 78 pitches, and 64% of them were thrown for strikes. Goshen's
Logan Wilson allowed four earned runs in four innings on five hits.
Zak Henrich threw the next two innings in relief - allowing no runs and just one hit.
The Maple Leafs host #1 Taylor on Friday, April 10, at 1:00 pm and then Saturday at the same time.
