GOSHEN, Ind. - Softball had a pair of one-run home wins on Friday at the GC Softball Complex over Taylor. The Leafs beat the Trojans 10-9 and 3-2 to improve to 7-11 in the Crossroads League and earned their 12th and 13th overall wins on the season. Goshen is 6-2 at home this year, and 6-2 in their last eight games against Taylor.
Game One
The teams combined for 31 total hits in the first game. Taylor scored two in the top of the first but Goshen put four runs on the board in the bottom of the second.
Kaylee Kline hit a two-RBI double,
Ella Mcleod had an RBI single and
Bianca Diamond added an RBI groundout to go up 4-2. The Trojans tied it in the third but the Leafs responded with four more runs later in the inning. Starting pitcher
Esme Pico hit a two-RBI double and
Kaylee Kline followed that with a two-run home run.
Goshen held on to a narrow lead the rest of the way. It was an 8-6 edge when
Brinleigh Arredondo hit an RBI double and
Hayden McGuire an RBI single to make it 10-6. The Trojans pulled within one run in the seventh, but it wasn't enough despite their 18 hits on offense.
Shay Pipher earned the win after 1.1 innings in relief after Pico went 3.2 innings with six earned. Pipher had no earned runs, two runs, and two hits allowed.
Camryn Barrows earned the save, allowing one earned in two innings with three strikeouts and no walks.
Arredondo and McGuire combined for six of Goshen's 13 hits. McGuire and Pico each scored two runs. Kline was 2-3 with four RBIs.
Game Two
While the second game still contained a number of hits - 18 combined - there were only five total runs in Goshen's 3-2 win.
The scoring started in the top of the third on a sac fly for the Trojans.
Serenidy Mitchem scored for GC in the bottom half of the inning when Barrows singled to center. In the fifth, Barrows homered to left center - a two-run shot with
Bianca Diamond on base. An RBI double from Bella Browning in the top of the seventh made things interesting again for the Maple Leafs, but they held on to a one-run win.
Tatem Adams went five innings, allowing one earned run on eight hits. She had four strikeouts and two walks. Barrows earned another save, going two innings with one earned run and two hits. She had two strikeouts and no walks allowed.
At the plate, Barrows was 2-3 with a single and a home run. She had a run and three RBIs. Pico went 2-2 with a pair of singles.
