GOSHEN, Ind. - After a five-set win at Aquinas earlier in the season, the Maple Leafs didn't need as long on Wednesday, as they swept the Saints in three sets - 25-15, 25-17, 31-29.
Goshen dominated early, hitting .375 in the opening set while Aquinas was held to a negative percentage at -.148. The Leafs took a 5-1 lead early and had a six-point run later in the set, eventually winning by ten. Aquinas led 7-6 in the second set before a 14-6 run by GC. Goshen won by eight points in the second set with a .294 hitting percentage compared to .000 for the visitors.
The third set turned into a marathon that the Leafs almost let slip away. There were 15 ties and six lead changes in the set with both teams trading points late. Goshen led 24-21 and Aquinas had four match points of their own, but the Leafs finally broke through at 31-29 to complete the sweep.
The win ties the all-time series at 8-8 but Goshen is 8-4 in the last 12.
Sawyer Frystak led the offense with ten kills on .643 hitting.
Ben Koop added six kills and seven digs.
Ryan Kabrich and
Gavin Furgerson hit .400 or higher.
Mathis Doladille had two block assists and a solo block - putting him at over 100 blocks for the season.
Nash Hubick ran the offense with 25 assists.
Goshen (12-16, 6-10 WHAC) hosts Indiana Tech, who is receiving votes in the NAIA coaches poll, on Friday, April 10, at 7:00 pm.
