FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Saint Francis softball improved their conference record to 19-3 on Thursday evening with 4-2 and 10-1 wins over the Maple Leafs.
Esme Pico allowed four earned runs in six innings in game one. USF now has a 13-game win streak.
Game One
Abby Robakowski hit an RBI single in the bottom of the first for USF, but the Leafs were within striking distance over the next couple of innings. In the fourth, Goshen tied it up once
Hayden McGuire hit an RBI single, scoring
Camryn Barrows. The Cougars left two on base in the first, and the Maple Leafs left two on in their run-producing inning as well.
Still tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Robakowski sent a two-run home run over the center field wall to give the Cougars a 3-1 lead. They added another in the sixth when Macie Dowd homered to left. GC made a bit of a rally in the seventh, as
Rachel Kates hit an RBI single to right field that scored
Ella Mcleod.
Audrey White singled next, which sent the tying run to the plate, but a strikeout ended it, giving USF a 4-2 win.
Esme Pico allowed four runs on ten hits in six innings. This was the second time out of her 14 outings this season where she did not allow any walks. Saint Francis had ten hits and Goshen totaled eight.
Hayden McGuire and
Celeste Gutierrez had two singles each.
Game Two
The Cougars pounced early in the second game with a three-run first inning and a five-run fifth. Three of their ten runs in the game were unearned, as Goshen committed three errors after not having any in the first game.
Shay Pipher went 1.2 innings and allowed five earned runs.
In the fourth, Macie Dowd hit her second home run of the game to make it 10-0. The Maple Leafs cut in on the lead in the fifth when
Ella Mcleod scored on a passed ball after advancing to third on a wild pitch. It wasn't enough, however, as USF won by run rule and ended the game after five innings.
Tatem Adams threw 2.1 innings in relief, allowing two earned runs on three hits. She had four strikeouts and two walks.
Sydney Lockhart had a pair of singles for Goshen.
