COLUMBUS, Ind. - Women's soccer traveled south to Indiana University Columbus for their final preparations ahead of opening their Crossroads League season. The Maple Leafs fought hard, but were undone by a late goal and lost 1-0.
IU Columbus got out to a good start, getting two shots off in the first five minutes, with Lily Campbell hitting the crossbar within the first two minutes. Goshen then put together a spell of attacking pressure, with May Boudreau, Natalie Boulier and Cali Tadman testing the IU Columbus goalkeeper. Both teams would test the other's keeper, but ultimately the sides would go on goalless.
The Leafs started the better in the second half, with Jessica Brito, Boudreau and Sophia Yoder all testing the goalkeeper. Both teams attempted to get a foothold in the game, but neither team could produce a go-ahead goal before the hour mark. The only disciplinary action for the Leafs went to Page Mora on the 61-minute mark.
The only goal of the game came just two minutes from time, with Madesyn Sunderhaus firing home to give the home team the advantage with her first goal of the year. The goal was the latest goal in a game for the Leafs since 2022. The Maple Leafs couldn't find an equalizer and came away defeated.Â
The Maple Leafs are back in action on the road against the Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars on Wednesday, Sep. 23 at 7 p.m. as they start their Crossroads League campaign.Â
