INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Men's soccer faced their first away conference matchup as they took on the (RV) Marian Knights. Though the game started out with a series of back and forth goals, the Knights ended up taking the victory 8-1.
The Knights came out strong, scoring in just the 18th minute with Josh Wesseling picking up his fifth goal of the season.
The Maple Leafs answered quickly in the 25th minute however, as Kyle Phillip nabbed his fourth goal of the season, cementing him firmly as GC's leading scorer this year.
The Leafs didn't hold the lead for long though, as the Knights scored again in the 28th minute to take the lead back, before scoring again in the 45th minute to close out the first half 3-1.
The Knights then consistently scored throughout the second half, picking up goals in the 56th, 61st, 74th, 88th, and 90th minutes. The Knights outshot the Leafs 24-4 with 16-1 shots falling on goal.
Matias Labbe picked up five saves for the Leafs, with Gabriel Viau also picking up three saves during his time in goal.
The Maple Leafs are back in action at the GC Soccer Complex on Wednesday, Sep. 30, where they will face the (RV) Taylor Trojans at 7 p.m as they continue their Crossroads League matchups.
