Maple Leafs fall to #23 Grace on the road

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Women's volleyball traveled to Winona Lake to take on #23 Grace College, where the Maple Leafs lost 25-18, 25-18, 25-12.

The first set started with the Lancers getting out to an 8-4 lead before Goshen could get themselves back in the fight, which eventually came courtesy of two kills from Carmin Corey. The teams then proceeded to go back-and-forth exchanging points until the Leafs put together another 2-0 run, with Ava Schneider and Corey scoring kills. The final run of the set for the Leafs was another 2-0 run with Schneider picking up a brace of kills

Grace jumped out to a 4-1 lead early in the second set, before GC put together a 5-2 run, with kills from Schneider, Railynn Bowman and errors from Grace. The Lancers went on a 9-4 run before the Maple Leafs scored three unanswered through two Grace errors and a service ace from Lila Quinones. The final Goshen point of the set came through a service error before a Lancer kill put the set to bed in favor of the hosts.

The Leafs got out to a better start in set three. Corey and Emese Southwick scored on kills and GC picked up points through errors from their opponents to lead 4-3. From here, Grace would put together a 12-0 run to lead 15-4. For every GC point, the Lancers had two, as they led 21-7. GC put together a 4-1 run, including three attacking errors and a kill from Mary Osten, before a service error gave Grace the set, and ultimately the match. 

Corey once again led in kills for the Leafs, and Armani Guidry-Austin tied her career high of five blocks. 

The Maple Leafs are back in action on Wednesday, Sep. 30 on the road as they take on Spring Arbor at 7 p.m.
