Neal Young begins his fourth season as the Goshen College men’s basketball head coach in 2016-17. In his third season at the Maple Leafs' helm in 2015-16, Young coached the team to their second double-digit victory season in 46 years of Crossroads League basketball. Goshen went 19-13 overall and 10-8 in league play, hosting a CL tournament game for the first time since 2005. Dominique Bolden was named honorable mention all-American, the first Goshen player so honored since 2010.
"My vision is to build the Goshen College Men's Basketball program into one that is consistently competing at the top of the Crossroads League as well as a program that is a fixture at the NAIA National Tournament," Young said. "A program that not only Goshen College can be proud of, but also one that the community will embrace and will be proud of as well."
In two years as an assistant at Lewis University (Ill.), Young helped the Flyers to 36 wins in two seasons, the most wins in a two-year span since 2003-05. He coached a pair of All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selections, while taking Lewis to the 2011-12 NCAA DII National Tournament.
As the lead recruiter during his previous stint at Goshen, Young signed three All-Mid-Central College Conference Newcomer Team selections, the school's first NCAA DI transfer, and was instrumental in bringing in all 13 players from the 2011-12 team, which posted its highest ever national ranking (#12).
While on staff during the 2009-10 season, the Maple Leafs finished the season ranked in the RPI top 10 for the first time in school history. He also coached MCC Player of the Year Errick McCollum, who ended his career as the program's all-time leading scorer.
Neal and his wife Maggie have been married since the summer of 2008 and reside in Goshen. Maggie is a teacher at Chandler Elementary School. The couple has a son, Brooks, who will begin practicing his jump shot as soon as he learns to jump.
