Box Score MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Isaac Huerta's fourth goal in his last three matches proved to be enough Wednesday afternoon as the Goshen College men's soccer team defeated Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Crossroads League competition.
Huerta scored on a through ball to the center of the field in the 33rd minute. Senior Chris Vendrely's first assist of the season set up the fourth career goal for the Maple Leaf freshman, who was playing his first game since being named NAIA Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday night.
Dean Nafziger made five saves to pick up his second consecutive shutout. Mount Vernon Nazarene held a 15-6 shot advantage: Cougar netminder Adam Miller made four stops.
With the win, Goshen has won three matches in a row for the first time since September of 2014: it is the first 3-0-0 run in the Crossroads League (formerly Mid-Central College Conference) since October 2011.
Goshen improves its record to 4-8 this season: with a record of 3-1 in conference play, the Maple Leafs are guaranteed at least a tie for the league lead at the close of play Wednesday night. Goshen plays at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion at 7 p.m. Saturday.
