Cougars blank Maple Leafs with late run in Michigan

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. — Spring Arbor University continued an undefeated start to its Crossroads League season with a 3-0 victory over Goshen College on Wednesday at the Cougar Soccer Complex.

All three goals came in the final 20 minutes, with Addison Clarke breaking a scoreless deadlock in the 73rd minute followed by Cole Russell in the 78th and Alex Sokalski in the 85th. Jacob Crull assisted on each of the first two goals.

The Cougars (9-1-2, 4-0-1) outshot their guests 17-, with 7 of their 11 starters recording at least 1 attempt. Leutrim Shefkiu led all players with 4 shots. No player on either side had more than one shot on goal.

Tomas Fonseca made 3 saves for the Maple Leafs (5-8, 1-4). Sven Badstieber and Lucas Bontreger each recorded 2 shots with 1 apiece on goal.

Spring Arbor outshot Goshen 5-1 in the first 45 minutes and 12-5 in the second half, although the advantage in corner kicks was a more manageable 5-4.

Goshen travels to Huntington University on Saturday for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
