Box Score GOSHEN, Ind. — Forty-three kills from Saint Xavier University proved too much for the Goshen College men's volleyball team to overcome Saturday night in a 25-16, 25-15, 26-24 loss at Gunden Gymnasium.
Ben Gabor posted 15 winners and Justin McCarthy 12 for the Cougars (6-2), matching Goshen's team total even before the 8 kills from Kyle Springer rounded out the starting lineup. Saint Xavier hit .330 for the match and .414 in each of the first two sets.
The Maple Leafs (2-9) earned 11 winners from Alexander Rabadzhiev and 7 from Christian Rodriguez, but added 16 errors on 83 attacks. Each and every kill had a corresponding assist, with Michael Wahl's 21 helpers pacing the team. Rabadzhiev led Goshen with 9 digs.
Saint Xavier's Aaron Kummer recorded 36 assists and Jake Olson had 10 digs, leading all players in both categories. The Cougars added 5 solo blocks among their team total of 7, with Andrew Bergstrand recording 2 solos.
Wahl was the only player on either team with multiple aces and Nick Yutzy contributed 7 digs for GC.
Goshen has four days away from competition to start the week before traveling to another Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe, Robert Morris University, on Thursday. First serve in the Valentine's Day rendezvous is set for 7:30 p.m. EST.
