Illinois unkind to Leafs in loss at Robert Morris

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. — Robert Morris University topped Goshen College in three sets Thursday night in a non-conference collegiate men's volleyball match, winning by scores of 25-16, 25-23 and 25-13.

Manny Andrade led all players with 9 kills and 7 blocks for the host Eagles (6-9), who racked up 12 blocks and limited Goshen to 16 kills. John Wazydrag and Nicholas Allen added 8 winners apiece and Wazydrag also had 7 blocks.

Goshen (2-10) got 8 kills from Alexander Rabadzhiev and 4 from Lucas Sauder. Christian Rodriguez and Isaac Longenecker each led the team with 7 digs, one short of the match high posted by RMU's Troy Teske and Bobby Ying.

After the Eagles used an 8-1 run to seize the first set, the second stanza included 11 ties and 4 lead changes: at one point, the receiving team won 10 consecutive points as the score went from 7-6 to 12-11. Goshen led as late as 16-15 and served to level the set four times thereafter, only for Robert Morris to record a sideout at each time of asking and open the third set with an 8-2 spurt.

Michael Wahl led Goshen with 13 assists.

Goshen will host a tri-match on Saturday, taking on Siena Heights University and Geneva College. The Maple Leafs will meet Siena Heights at 1 p.m. in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest: Geneva will take on Siena Heights at approximately 3 p.m. and Goshen at roughly 5.
