GOSHEN, Ind. — Michael Wahl and Alexander Rabadzhiev each finished with 24 kills Saturday, but the Goshen College men's volleyball team dropped three-set matches to Siena Heights University and Geneva College in a tri-match at Gunden Gymnasium.

Rabadzhiev paced the Maple Leafs (2-12) with 12 kills in the opener, a 25-15, 25-22, 25-18 loss to Siena Heights that doubled as a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match. Christian Rodriguez and Lucas Sauder each contributed 5 blocks and Sauder led the team with 26 assists.

Evan Cashen posted 12 kills and Alex Garavalia recorded a .538 hitting percentage for the Saints (8-3), who finished with three times more kills than errors. Garavalia added 3 solo blocks and Keegan Crawford posted 36 assists. Each libero, Siena Heights' Emilier De Jesus and Goshen's Isaac Longenecker, tied for a match-high 6 digs.

After Siena Heights used a 7-1 run to take control of the first set, Goshen took a 16-12 lead in the second as three Wahl kills sparked a 9-2 spurt. SHU came back to tie the set four more times and took a 2-0 lead in sets on a Crawford ace.

The third set was tied at four of the first seven chances and a two-point margin as late as 17-15.

The Maple Leafs fell 25-20, 25-18, 25-20 in the day's last match, which came against a fellow first-year program from Geneva. The Golden Tornadoes got 10 winners from Spencer York and 9 each from Spencer York and Quinn McCracken. Dan Townsend led all players with 11 digs, matching Rabadzhiev.

Wahl paced Goshen with 13 winners, although Christian Rodriguez outdid him with a .308 hitting percentage on 13 swings. Sauder again led the team in assists and blocks with 30 and 4, respectively.

The first set was the tightest of the day, with neither team leading by more than four points until it was 16-12 to the guests. A 6-2 Maple Leaf lead had put the hosts up as much as 9-6. The second set saw GC lead 13-12 before Geneva reeled off six of the next seven, and Geneva led the third set wire-to-wire after taking a 4-0 lead on attacks from four players.

Siena Heights claimed the mythical tri-match championship with a four-set win over Geneva in the second match of the day.

Goshen is back in action later this week with its second set of three matches in three days. The Maple Leafs visit Judson University on Thursday, host North Park University on Friday, and travel to Lawrence Technological University on Saturday. The Judson and North Park matches both start at 7 p.m. EST.
