Box Score MARION, N.C. — Two five-run innings and a four-run frame gave Montreat College a 14-2 win over Goshen College on Monday at the Big League Camp complex in North Carolina.
Goshen (2-4) struck first in the game with a two-out, two-run rally in the top of the first inning. After Clinton Stroble II was hit by a pitch and Kody McGuire singled, an Austin Bontrager base knock drove in one run and the Maple Leafs doubled their lead on a fielding error.
Montreat scored four times in the second inning and added two unearned runs in the third on the way to a 9-2 lead. The Cavaliers tacked on five more in the fifth despite not having a hit leave the infield.
Ryan Pareda and Alex Soto picked up two hits apiece for Montreat, with Soto recording the game's lone extra-base hit, a double. Stroble reached base twice for Goshen with McGuire and Bailey Owens scoring runs.
James Crowder took the pitching win after allowing 5 hits and striking out 8 in 6 innings. Kyle Staelgraeve, Quinlan Armstrong and Toby Fox all pitched for Goshen.
Goshen continues its spring break trip on Tuesday by starting a series at Hiwassee College in Madisonville, Tennessee. The three-game set consists of a doubleheader at noon Tuesday and a single game at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
