Box Score MADISONVILLE, Tenn. — Kody McGuire rapped three hits and Evan Creager had a pair of doubles Wednesday, but Hiwassee College took the rubber game of a three-game baseball series with Goshen College with a 6-5 victory in 11 innings.
Hiwassee (8-2) got three hits from right fielder Dylan Ganci and two apiece out of Tyler Hisey and CJ Huff before winning the game on an unearned run in the bottom of the 11th. Ryan Keefe got the win after allowing a single run in 3 2/3 innings of relief.
Toby Fox drew the start for the Maple Leafs (3-6) and allowed 3 runs while striking out 6 in 6 2/3 innings. Colton Daniel worked the final 3 innings in relief; the junior allowed 2 hits and struck out 3 without being charged with an earned run.
GC loaded the bases on three second-inning singles, scoring a run on Anthony Todaro's double-play ground ball and another on a Creager double. After Hiwassee got a run back on Hisey's triple in its half of the third, Goshen strung together three hits in the top of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.
After a hit batter and a single started the inning, Ganci's double tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Brighton Schofield crossed the plate on Creager's sixth-inning double to put Goshen back ahead 4-3 before Wilson scored on an error to make it 5-3 in the eighth. The insurance run would be what sent the game to extra innings after three singles and a squeeze play allowed Hiwassee to push across two runs in the eighth.
Goshen left two runners on base in the 10th inning and loaded the bases with two down in the 11th. A fielder's choice ended the threat, however, and the Tigers used a walk and a single to put men on the corners with one out in the bottom of the inning. After an intentional walk to set up force plays around the diamond, a passed ball brought in the winning run.
Creager, Schofield, Mitchell Wilson and Bobby Garcia all added two hits for Goshen.
The Maple Leafs conclude their 10-game spring-break trip over the weekend with a series at Toccoa Falls College in Georgia. Goshen will square off with the Screaming Eagles in a single game at 2 p.m. Friday and a doubleheader at noon Saturday.
