Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Goshen College softball team dropped a pair in Sunday's action at the NAIA Leadoff Classic in Rosemont, Ill., falling to the University of Michigan-Dearborn 13-5 in the opener and then to Concordia University (Mich.) 9-0 in the nightcap.

After Michigan-Dearborn scored three in the top of the first in the opener, the Maple Leafs answered with two in the bottom. Madison Matthews opened the frame with a double and advanced to third when Allison White reached on a fielder's choice. Sandra Rodriguez singled to center to score Matthews, and after a strikeout, Hayley Courtney singled to left to score White.

The Leafs tied the score in the second, when Matthews reached on an error and later scored on a White groundout.

After Michigan-Dearborn answered with two in the top of the third, Goshen answered with a two-out rally, taking advantage of an error to scored two unearned runs. With one out, Courtney was hit by a pitch. After a strikeout, Taylor Sutliff walked, and both scored when Jaelyn Rufenacht's single got away from the Wolverine left fielder.

Goshen was unable to score the rest of the way as Michigan-Dearborn broke the 5-5 tie with a run in the fourth and then broke the game open with three each in the fifth and the sixth.

Leah Herrman went the distance in the pitching circle, striking out four but picking up the loss. Rodriguez had two singles to pace the hitters.

Against Concordia, Brianna Sherman laced a pair of singles in a five-hit attack. Matthews added a double and Katherine Boyer and Rodriguez each had singles. Emily Cummings pitched all five innings for the Maple Leafs.

Goshen, now 1-3, has two weeks off before hitting the road for a 12-game road trip to California and Arizona over the college's spring break. The trip includes doubleheaders against two teams currently in the NAIA's top 25.
