Box Score SYLVANIA, Ohio — The NAIA's second-ranked men's volleyball team proved too much for Goshen College on Wednesday night as Lourdes University swept the Maple Leafs 25-16, 25-15, 25-20 at the Ebeid Recreation Center.
The Grey Wolves (16-3, 6-0 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) hit .330 in their win, getting 15 kills from Jeff Lam and 13 from Ricardo Gehrke. Evan Gebert led all players with 11 digs and Henrique Gehrke added 42 assists.
Alexander Rabadzhiev led Goshen (7-19, 0-6) with 10 kills to go with 3 blocks, including a solo stuff. Andy Bennett recorded 3 blocks of his own, but Austin Branagan led the team with 4 in that category. Rabadzhiev and Nick Yutzy led the team with 8 digs each.
The Maple Leafs led at some point in all three sets, taking six of eight rallies at one point in the second stanza, but the Grey Wolves recorded runs of four points or longer in all three sets as they took the lead. The third set was as close as two points as late as 19-17.
The win keeps Lourdes in the driver's seat for the inaugural WHAC championship and the right to host next month's conference tournament: LU can clinch the top spot Friday night with a win over Aquinas. Goshen needs two wins in its remaining two conference games to tie for fourth.
The Maple Leafs return to the court Monday night as they re-appear in Gunden Gymnasium to take on Cincinnati Christian University. The match is Goshen's first home game since Feb. 22 and begins at 7 p.m.
