Box Score GOSHEN, Ind. — The Goshen College men's volleyball team hit a season-high .473 Monday night in a three-set sweep of Cincinnati Christian University at Gunden Gymnasium.
Alexander Rabadzhiev led all players with 16 kills, Andy Bennett added 9 and Brandon Watkins 8 as the Maple Leafs won 25-14, 25-14, 25-17 with 42 kills in 61 minutes.
Bennett led all players with 4 blocks including a solo stuff for the Maple Leafs (8-19), who got 29 assists from Michael Wahl and 10 digs from Nick Yutzy. Rabadzhiev posted two of the team's three aces.
On defense, Goshen forced the Eagles (1-23) into 23 hitting errors against 22 winners; Braden Shelley paced Cincinnati Christian with 8 kills and 11 errors on 34 swings.
GC took the first three points of the match and the first six points of the second set, never trailing in either stanza. A 5-0 run late in the first set made it 18-8 in the hosts' favor after a pair of Rabadzhiev kills and Goshen led by as many as 11 in each of the first two sets.
Cincinnati Christian led briefly in the third set, but only at 1-0 after an opening service error. Goshen won 7 of the next 9 points to pull ahead 7-3 and led by as many as 9 in what would be the final set.
Anthony Vasek led CCU with 9 assists and Isac Kenney recorded 2 aces to tie the match high.
The Maple Leafs return to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference on Tuesday evening at Siena Heights University in a match moved forward from Wednesday. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in the SHU Fieldhouse.
