GOSHEN, Ind. — Leah Herrman blasted a 3-run homer and Emily Cummings and Allison White each added 3 hits Friday as the Goshen College softball team split a Crossroads League doubleheader with the University of Saint Francis, winning the first game 8-1 and losing the second 8-0 at the John Ingold Athletic Complex.

Jessica Bachtell and Cummings both scored on Herrman's third-inning dinger, which put the Maple Leafs (16-27, 10-17) up 3-1 in the third inning of the opener. The hit was also Goshen's 370th of the season, tying the program record set last spring.

Saint Francis (22-20-1, 13-14-1) got its lone run in the top of the first inning after Breanna Pryor drew a leadoff walk and went station-to-station on three straight bunts.

The Maple Leafs added five more hits in the fourth inning, all singles, to score thrice more and run the lead out to 6-1. Ri Koteles added an RBI single in the sixth inning and White got a bases-loaded walk to set the final score at 8-1.

Cummings struck out 5 and scattered 4 hits in 6 innings to take home her 11th win of the season. Hannah Grimes worked a perfect seventh inning in relief.

The Cougars turned the tables in the finale of the season series, keeping Goshen off second base until the fifth inning and scoring in four innings of an 8-0 victory. Saint Francis out-hit Goshen 10-6, adding three doubles and four multi-hit performances while getting a complete game in the circle from Brooke Herron.

Breanna Pryor and Ashleigh Morrow each had early run-scoring hits for USF, which led 2-0 through 3 innings, and Jade Mollenkopf uncorked a bases-clearing double as part of a 4-run fourth that made the lead 6-0. The last two runs came in the seventh on a throwing error and a Madi Schwartz single.

Taylor Sutliff posted two hits, including a double, in three at bats for the Maple Leafs. Herrman added a hit and a walk. Grimes and Rayna Moraga split pitching responsibilities.

The doubleheader split helped Goshen keep pace with Huntington University and maintain sixth place in the Crossroads League standings.

Goshen begins a four-game road trip Saturday with a visit to Bethel College in Mishawaka. First pitch of the rivalry doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
