Box Score INDIANAPOLIS — Emily Cummings drove in a pair of runs and pitched a one-hitter Friday as the Goshen College softball team topped Huntington University 3-0 in a Crossroads League tournament elimination game for its first postseason victory in 15 seasons.
Cummings struck out 7 batters and threw 113 pitches in a complete-game victory to improve her record to 14-9 this season.
Jessica Bachtell, Katherine Boyer and Sandra Rodriguez each had two hits for Goshen (20-33-1), which won its 20th game of the season for the third time in program history. Edith Vega scored twice and stole two bases. Every hit in the game was a single.
Goshen posted single runs in the first, second and fifth innings. The first and last of those runs came on identical sequences: Vega drew a leadoff walk and stole second base before Bachtell singled her to third and Cummings lifted a fly ball to left.
Goshen's middle run came as the product of three straight singles off the bats of Ri Koteles, Taylor Sutliff and Sandra Rodriguez.
Huntington (17-32) had runners on base in five of the seven innings thanks to 7 walks and 2 hit batters. They put runners on second and third twice, loading the bases on a hit batter and two walks in the fifth inning.
Kennedy Krull recorded the Foresters' lone hit; Paige Eichelberger and Sophia Beachy each walked twice.
With the victory, Goshen advances to play the University of Saint Francis in another elimination game at noon Saturday; the winner of that game will play again later in the evening, meeting either Indiana Wesleyan or Mount Vernon Nazarene at 5 p.m.
