Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Second-ranked Campbellsville University topped Goshen College in three sets Friday night in an NAIA men's volleyball match. The Tigers defended their home floor in a 25-9, 25-20, 25-12 win.
Rafael Cruz led Campbellsville (10-0) with 9 kills and 2 errors on 14 attempts. Yannik Ahr added 8 winners and Ramon Matos put down 6 to go with 7 blocks, the latter of which led all players.
Goshen (2-3) finished with 6 kills from Alexander Rabadzhiev, 3 kills from Ian Fox and 4 blocks by Andy Bennett. Lucas Sauder led the team with 7 assists and Michael Wahl had a match-high 9 digs.
John Montalvo led the Tigers with 9 digs as well, outdoing Ahr who finished with 7. Jeremy Hernandez and Jason Camacho each cracked double figures in the assist column with 19 and 12 apiece.
Campbellsville hit .312 with 38 winners to Goshen's 11 kills.
The Tigers went up 5-1 in the opening set; a block by Bennett and Jack Paraha brought the Maple Leafs within 8-5, but that was as close as they got before a 10-point run on Ramos' serve. Goshen led twice in the second set, at 5-4 and 16-15, but Campbellsville answered the latter score with a 6-0 run and a 10-3 spurt to end the set.
CU also had a six-point streak just before the middle of the third set, breaking a 7-5 set open to the tune of 13-5. Rabadzhiev posted 2 kills and Baer 1 in the final stanza.
Goshen returns to the court at Campbellsville's Gosser Gymnasium on Saturday when the Maple Leafs take on Life University of Georgia in a neutral-site match. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
