Leafs crack win column with 108th-minute goal

Corona scores with 1:43 left in double overtime

GOSHEN, Ind. — Litzy Corona finished a cross from Yesenia Cervantes Becerra to put the Goshen College women's soccer team on the scoreboard and in the win column with one touch Saturday in a 1-0, double-overtime victory over Huntington University at the John Ingold Athletic Complex.

Corona took a team-high 6 shots and Katie Baer made 12 saves for her first shutout of the season as the Maple Leafs vaulted into third place in the Crossroads League Roads Division and fifth overall in the league.

Avery Giguere took 7 shots and Ashtyn Patrick took 6 for Huntington (0-4-1), which finished with a 23-9 shot edge that included a 15-3 margin in the second half. Maddy Moan made three saves, all in the first half.

Goshen (1-3) took its first corner kick of the season 11 minutes into the second half, but nothing came of it. Huntington had three corners in the first half and four in a five-minute span in overtime.

Huntington put three shots on target in the first 15 minutes before Megan Bullock took Goshen's first shot. Each team took two shots on goal for the rest of the first half.

The Foresters dominated the run of play in the second half, outshooting GC 10-1 in the last 45 minutes of regulation. Baer made three saves in seven minutes before the midpoint of the half along with a stop in the 80th minute. Patrick missed a shot with 2:12 left.

Huntington's four corners in the first overtime led to two shots and the Foresters took three shots in the second overtime before a foul gave the ball to GC with 2:20 remaining. Cervantes Becerra made a run up the right side before Corona finished the game.

Goshen returns to the field on Tuesday for a makeup game at Bethel University in Mishawaka. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Morey Field as the teams play for half a point in the U.S. Highway 20 Cup standings.
