Huntington spoils volleyball Senior Night

Coles spikes 10 winners in defeat

GOSHEN, Ind. — Madison Coles finished with a season-high 10 winners and Taylor Eash posted 2 blocks, including a solo, on Senior Night as the Goshen College women's volleyball team lost a Crossroads League match to Huntington University in four sets Friday night at Gunden Gymnasium. The Foresters prevailed by set scores of 25-13, 15-25, 25-17, and 25-16.

Abby Robinson led all players with 12 kills and Brea Metz had 10 for the Foresters (1-14, 1-13). Jennings Tacosik led all players with 34 assists and 6 aces while Ariene Butler had a match-high 23 digs.

Christina Towne led the Maple Leafs with 14 digs and added 5 kills. Amy Baca chipped in 12 digs as well.

Huntington hit at least .269 in all three sets that it won while Goshen spiked at a .259 clip in the second set and .053 in the rest of the match.

The Foresters used an 11-1 run including five Tacosik aces to seize control in the first set, but the pendulum finally swung the other way in the second, when a pair of four-point runs put Goshen (0-12) up 9-5. Two more four-point runs made it 17-8 and put the host team well on its way to snapping a 40-set losing streak.

The third set marked Huntington's turn to get the runs, as three-point spurts made it 4-2 and 9-5 before a 5-0 rally opened the lead to 21-14. In the fourth set, Goshen got as close as 9-8 before the Foresters won six of seven points on the serves of Tacosik and Abby Robinson to go up 15-9.

Following the cancellation of Goshen's scheduled match on Saturday at Grace College, the Maple Leafs will return to action Wednesday when they host Huntington again at 5 p.m.
