FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Goshen College men's basketball team stumbled in its return to the court after the Thanksgiving holiday on Saturday afternoon, losing 88-53 to Indiana Tech at the Schaefer Center in Fort Wayne in a non-conference matchup.
Michael Bowers and Austin Branagan led Goshen (2-7) with 14 points while Phillip Hughes was a point and two rebounds away from a double-double.
Indiana Tech (5-2) got a game-high 16 points from Josh Kline, who also had 8 assists. The Warriors put four players in double figures in the scoring column while Grant Smith scored 9; he led all players with 11 rebounds.
The Warriors jumped on top early, scoring their first goal 14 seconds in and taking a commanding lead with 27 of the first 29 points. They also scored 28 points in the first 10 minutes after a 35-22 halftime lead.
Indiana Tech hit on 52 percent of its shots, including 64 percent in the second half, while going 12-of-20 (60 percent) from 3-point range. Despite 8 rebounds apiece from Branagan and Bowers, the Maple Leafs were outrebounded 52-35.
The Warriors had a game-high 8 assists from Rog Stein and 4 three-pointers by Max Perez. Smith was a perfect 3-for-3 from downtown.
Goshen returns to Crossroads League play on Wednesday when it visits Indiana Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
