"We played really well tonight as a team," said Maple Leaf head coach Jim Daugherty. "We had good rhythm on offense and our defense stepped up too with their second-best effort of the season. We recorded 12 blocks and had one of our best serving efforts as well. I hope we can carry this over to the match tomorrow."
The Trolls won the coin toss and elected to receive; the coin toss and the fourth rally of the match, which saw them leading 2-1, would be the only times they led in the match. Goshen reeled off six points in a row to lead 7-2, then added a four-point spurt on the way to a 21-13 lead and closed out the opening set 25-17.
The Maple Leafs cruised to a quick 7-2 lead in the second set as well and never let the Trolls get back within 3 points, winning 25-18 on a Rabadzhiev block and kill for the last two points.
Trinity Christian took the 7-2 lead in the third set behind a 6-0 run that included three aces. Goshen traded points to get to 12-6, then ripped off an 11-3 run mostly on Bennett's serve to flip their lead to 17-15. The Trolls won three straight points to pull in front again, but a 4-point run and a 3-point run pushed the Maple Leafs to the sweep with a 25-21 set win.
The Maple Leafs will look to push their win total into double digits and run their winning streak to three on Saturday when they visit Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan. First serve is set for 3 p.m. at the Don Ridler Field House.
