Box Score MARION, N.C. — The Goshen College baseball team dropped the first game of its spring break trip to Montreat College 11-0 Saturday night at the Big League Camp facility in North Carolina.
The Cavaliers rapped 10 hits in the eight-inning contest, which was moved from the MC campus to allow artificial turf to be installed at their home field.
Tyson Cosgrove threw 7 innings of 3-hit, 3-run baseball for Montreat in the victory, striking out 8. Ryan Masterson allowed one hit in an inning of relief. At the plate, Arnold Dominguez had 3 hits and Bo Fricks Jr. and Tarik Latchmansingh each posted a pair. Fricks and Ashton Hawkins both doubled.
Goshen (2-3) was led by a hit and a walk from Bobby Garcia, who started at third base, and by catcher Anthony Todaro. Ben Longacre and Mitchell Wilson also had hits; all four Goshen hits were singles.
Kade Gorman got the start for GC and allowed 5 hits in 4.2 innings, striking out 3 men and walking 5. Toby Fox went the rest of the way, conceding 5 hits, 2 walks and 3 runs in 2.1 innings.
The Cavaliers struck for three runs in the second inning, then added on to make it 5-0 in the third when Norman Kelly hit an RBI single and stole home. Three unearned runs followed in the fifth inning and three singles and a balk made it 11-0 through seven.
The teams meet again for games two and three of their series on Sunday morning beginning at 11 a.m.
