Goshen wins fourth straight in 56-minute sweep of Robert Morris

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. — The Goshen College men's volleyball team needed less than an hour to win its fourth straight match Thursday night, dispatching Robert Morris University in straight sets, 25-12, 25-16, 25-13 at the Athletic and Convocation Center.

The Maple Leafs (14-6) matched the longest winning streak in program history while extending their own program record for most wins in a season and most wins by a Maple Leaf team in head-to-head competition this season.

Alexander Rabadzhiev finished with a match-high 8 kills and Jack Paraha had 7 to go with a pair of aces and 3 blocks. Andy Bennett also recorded a pair of aces and 4 blocks while Elias Baer had 3 blocks. Michael Wahl led the team with 23 assists and 7 digs in addition to 2 blocks.

Goshen used a season-high 13 players in the match. Koby Harshbarger recorded a kill, Andrew Ramos posted an assist and 4 digs and Colton Noel chipped in his first block of the season.

Robert Morris (1-18) got 8 kills from Conrad Para and 3 apiece from Elijah Peppers and Jordan Van Borstel. Para also led the team with 2 blocks and 2 aces while Charles Norman assisted on all 18 Eagle kills. Shawn McCarthy led RMU with 6 digs.

Goshen's defense forced 44 Eagle errors, including 24 in the attacking phase of the game.

The Maple Leafs trailed once, when Robert Morris opened the third set with a block, and scored 20 points before the Eagles got into double figures in two of the three sets.

"Tonight was a really good team effort overall and we were able to get some of our bench some minutes," said GC head coach Jim Daugherty. "Alex, Jack and Ian really played well."

Goshen continues its Illinois swing on Saturday with a match at Judson University in Elgin. First serve is set for 2 p.m. EST.
