Box Score ELGIN, Ill. — For the first time in program history, the Goshen College men's volleyball team has won five matches in a row after sweeping Judson University on Saturday in the Lindner Fitness Center as the teams played each other for the third time this year.
The Maple Leafs, who extended their program record for wins in a season to 15 against 6 losses, finished with 32 kills against 7 errors for a .329 hitting percentage. GC added a 4-3 edge in aces and each side finished with 4 blocks.
Judson (7-19) finished with 34 kills but gave 25 points away in attacking errors along with 9 service errors. Goshen recorded 5 serve miscues.
GC's Alexander Rabadzhiev led all players with 13 kills and Elias Baer and Andy Bennett each had 7. Michael Wahl paced the team with 27 assists and Brayton Yoder recorded a match-high 11 digs. Bennett and Wahl each recorded 2 blocks to tie for the match lead.
On the Eagle side of the stat sheet, Nakuluai Morando led the hosts with 15 kills and Tom Kurzynski added 27 assists. Jamison Blasing chipped in 8 digs and Morando recorded a pair of blocks.
Judson opened the match by taking 7 of the first 11 points, but Goshen answered with a 6-1 run that put them up 10-8. GC finished the set by taking 8 of the last 10 points capped with a Bennett ace.
Goshen raced to a 7-2 lead in the second set and never fell behind, although Judson tied the set at 13 before the Leafs ripped off another 11-3 run. An early Eagle lead was erased by a 5-point run to put Goshen up 13-8 in the third and final set.
The Maple Leafs are idle this week until playing three matches over the weekend at Siena Heights University's tournament. GC takes on Saint Ambrose University on Friday night in the tournament opener.
