Branagan crosses 900-point mark for career in loss at Marian

Tenth-ranked Knights race to early lead and hold off Leafs

INDIANAPOLIS — Tahj Curry scored a game-high 18 points for Goshen College on Wednesday night as Marian University topped the Maple Leafs 104-56 in a Crossroads League men's basketball game in the Physical Education Center on the MU campus.

Marian, which entered the game ranked 10th in the NAIA coaches poll, had seven players score in double figures, led by Christian Harvey with 17 points. Cameron Wolter added 16 points and 8 rebounds while Gavin Bizeau recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The Knights (8-1, 4-1) shot 63 percent in the first half, going 22-of-35 from the floor and swishing 7 threes to take a 59-22 halftime lead. They cooled off to 49 percent (17-for-35) in the second half but still finished with 19 assists on 39 makes while turning the ball over 3 times.

Austin Branagan added 13 points for Goshen (3-13, 1-6), going 4-of-7 from the floor as he surpassed 900 career points in the loss. He and Ryan Mansbarger shared the team high with 6 rebounds and Curry tied for the lead among all players with 4 assists. Kedrick Bibby blocked a pair of shots.

Christian Stewart recorded a game-high 5 steals and 4 assists for Marian. The Knights finished with 13 steals and had a 24-1 advantage in points off turnovers.

Goshen finished 18-for-46 (39 percent) from the floor and 4-for-15 (27 percent) from long distance. Each team made 16 free throws.

Goshen returns to the court Saturday when it travels to Ohio to take on Mount Vernon Nazarene with tip-off set for 1 p.m. in Ariel Arena.
