GOSHEN, Ind. – Goshen women's volleyball faced a tough Taylor squad that showed why they are ranked 18
th in the NAIA and have a record of 24-4. The Maple Leafs fell to the Trojans in three sets, 25-12, 25-15, and 25-14.
Despite the high level of competition, Goshen (3-26, 0-14) had early leads in both the first and third sets. The Leafs started with a 5-4 lead in the first but Taylor then scored five straight. Similarly, Goshen got off to a 7-6 lead in the third but the Trojans answered back with five consecutive points.
Although the Leafs never led in the second set, it was their best one statistically. They had eight kills, just four errors, and had a hitting percentage of .129. Goshen did better in each of these categories in the second set compared to the other two.
Sophomore
Gwyn Bellamy had three aces in the match. The three aces were more than any player for both teams, and it ties her career-best. She had previously had three aces in matches this year against Columbia International on August 13
th and against Huntington on September 24
th.
Taylor improves their conference record to 12-2 – only behind Marian in the Crossroads League standings. The Trojans have the second-most wins among volleyball programs in NAIA history.
The Maple Leafs are back in action at home tomorrow. At 3:00 p.m. they will face Mount Vernon Nazarene (23-5, 9-4) in the Ruth Gunden Gymnasium.
