GOSHEN, Ind. -
Kristian Gecaj scored his first goal of the season for Goshen men's soccer, but it wasn't enough to come back and defeat the Trojans. Taylor built up a 2-0 lead in the first half and, despite plenty of momentum, Goshen could only cut the lead in half when it was all said and done.
The game was a tale of two halves. Taylor (8-4-1, 3-2-1 CL) scored two goals on five shots in the first half. The first was from Pablo Gonzalez Cacho in the 30
th minute - assisted by Jhon Alzate. About ten minutes later, Jackson Hoosier scored a clean-up goal after a bunch of action right in front of the net. Goshen had just two shots in the first half, but the tables would turn after the break.
Five minutes into the second half, midfielder
Kristian Gecaj scored for the Leafs to cut the lead in half.
Lucas Bontreger and
Felipe Gallo assisted. The goal was the first of the season for Gecaj and the third career goal for the senior. His four shots during the game tied a career-best and his two shots on goal were a career-best. Along with Gecaj,
Luiz Matteus Pontes also had a couple of shots on goal.
Goshen continued the attack after the Gecaj goal. The Maple Leafs outshot the Trojans 13-2 in the second half and had four corner kicks while Taylor had none. For the game as a whole, Goshen finished with more than twice as many shots and shots on goal as Taylor had. However, Taylor's goalkeeper Jacob Susud played a big part in preventing those opportunities from showing up on the scoreboard. He had seven saves for the evening, and six of them were in the second half.
The next game for Goshen (5-7-3, 1-5-0 CL) is next Saturday, October 23
rd, at Marian at 7:00 pm. The next home game will be Wednesday, October 27
th against Spring Arbor.
