GOSHEN, IND – The Goshen women's volleyball team had momentum after two impressive performances in a tri-match at Rochester University, but Saint Xavier put an end to it in three sets at Gunden Gymnasium on Saturday. Saint Xavier is receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches Poll.
St. Xavier entered the match with a 19-3 record. They recently lost at #22 Indiana Wesleyan the night before but had beaten (RV) Indiana University-South Bend two nights ago. The non-conference match was Senior Day for the Maple Leafs.
Madison Coles,
Haylee Pennington, and
Naomi Willis were recognized in between the second and third sets.
The Cougars won 25-17, 25-18, 25-20. Goshen (4-30) had a hitting percentage of .314 in the third set with 12 kills and just one error. Willis,
Brielle Agnew, and
Jaelyn Amhdar each recorded an ace during the match. Maddie Beaver tallied four total blocks which is tied for the second-most she has had in a match this season. Pennington led the way in kills for Goshen with seven, and Brenneman and Coles had six apiece. Amhdar recorded her eighth game this season with twenty or more assists. Lastly, Willis had her seventh game in 2021 with double-digit digs.
The Leafs have no remaining home games, but two more road games in league play They take on Grace in Winona Lake on Wednesday, October 27
th at 7:00 pm. Then the season concludes on Saturday at Huntington at 3:00.
