SPRING ARBOR, MI – The women's soccer team tamed the beast that is the #4 Spring Arbor Cougars for over 60 minutes of action, but the tides turned in the latter third of the match.
Spring Arbor had plenty of chances in the first half. They had 13 shots and 13 corners. But seven saves by
Makiah McCain kept the Maple Leafs in contention with the #4 team in the country.
In the second half, the Cougars continued to apply the pressure but McCain and her teammates held their own. Eventually, the opportunities cashed in for Spring Arbor. Mackenzie Selvius scored in the 64
th minute off a rebound from a penalty kick. The Cougars led 1-0 with twenty minutes to go.
Spring Arbor came into the match with a 12-0-1 record, and 8-0-0 in the Crossroads League. The tie was in their first game of the season. But since then, they have had impressive wins against the #10, #24, #7, #15, and #8 teams in the nation. Two weeks prior, they beat Saint Francis (Ind.) 10-0.
That team showed up in the last twenty minutes of the match. They scored four goals in that period to leave the match with a 5-0 victory.

Makiah McCain finished with 14 saves. That is the most saves the freshman goalkeeper has had in a game this season. She had eight saves in a home match against Mount Vernon Nazarene on September 29
th.
Goshen has a crucial match coming up this Saturday. They play at Huntington at 1:00 pm on October 30
th. If Goshen wins, they will be in the Crossroads League tournament. But they will not make it in with a draw or a loss. Since 2000, the Maple Leafs are 10-10-1 against the Foresters.
