Martin’s hat trick propels Pilots past Maple Leafs

Two of Martin’s goals were scored with less than five minutes remaining

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The Maple Leafs fell to the Pilots 3-0 on Saturday night in Mishawaka with all goals scored by Miguel Martin. Bethel has now won eight straight matches with seven of them being shutout wins.

Martin's first goal came in the 14th minute, but the score would stay 1-0 going into halftime. Goshen (5-5-3) had just one shot in the first half compared to the six that Bethel had taken. Each team had six shots in the second half, but only Bethel (10-3-0) was able to find the back of the net. Martin scored his second goal, assisted by Ellis Jones in the 86th minute. Then just a short 26 seconds later, Miguel Martin completed the hat trick with his third goal, assisted by Andre Luis Sabino. Bethel has received votes to be in the NAIA top 25 rankings.

Four of Goshen's shots on goal came from senior Lucas Bontreger – which tied a career-high for him. Henrique Eichenberger, Uriel Machias, and Kristian Gecaj had the remaining shots on goal for the Maple Leafs.

Now after three straight road matches, the Leafs return home to face 5-8 Grace on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Goshen will look to go over the .500 mark and earn a second conference win.
