Mansbarger scores 20 as Trojans topple Leafs

Mansbarger goes perfect 7-7 from the free-throw line in second half

UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor Trojans beat the Goshen Maple Leafs 77-59 in the men's portion of the doubleheader in Upland. The Trojans have now won four straight games and move to 2-0 in the Crossroads League.

The teams were tied 7-7 early on before Taylor started a 10-2 run to take a 17-9 advantage. Goshen would cut the lead down to three later in the half, but the Trojans held an 11 point lead at the break.

The Maple Leafs stayed in reach, getting within seven points on multiple occasions. However, Taylor didn't look back at the end of the game and outscored Goshen by seven in the last seven minutes.

Head coach Jon Tropf remarked that the team must find a way to be more consistent. "It has been elusive for us so far," he said, "but I still believe this group can find a way to get there."

Ryan Mansbarger led GC with 20 points. Seven of them came from the free-throw line, as he shot 7-7 from there in the second half. Robert Sanders scored 12 and shot 67% from the field. Greg Johnson provided in multiple areas with eight points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Michael Johnson and Niles Arrington each added six to the Goshen score.

The Maple Leafs (2-7, 0-2 CL) shot 43% but were just 18% behind the arc. They won the offensive rebound category 8-4.

Taylor (4-5, 2-0 CL) was led by Jason Hubbard's 21 points and 17 from Kaden Fuhrmann.

Goshen will take a break for the Thanksgiving holiday and will be back in action on the road at Indiana Wesleyan. That match will be on Tuesday, November 30 at 7:00 pm. The next time they'll be in Gunden Gymnasium will be Saturday, December 4, when they take on Spring Arbor at 3:00 pm. The women will play at 1:00 pm at home that day.
